”A Chef-Lecturer at the University of Derby Buxton is a semi-finalist in the prestigious National Chef of the Year 2010 competition.
The Craft Guild of Chefs competition acknowledges and rewards the crème de la crème of today's chef talent, and is one of the UK's most respected culinary challenges.
Robert Stordy is Chef Lecturer on the Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) in Professional Culinary Arts at the University of Derby Buxton, and leads the students as they develop their skills in the kitchens of The Dome Fine Dining Restaurant. He made the semi-final after impressing the judges with his design for a three course menu, which had to include a number of specific ingredients.
His menu consisted of a canapé starter including beetroot blinis; a main course of pan roasted chicken with pancetta, ceps and gnocchi, followed by lemon and basil parfait with ginger and crystallised basil leaves for dessert.
"I was delighted be shortlisted for the semi-final again this year," said Robert, who was also a semi-finalist in the competition in 2008. "It's fantastic to have your skills recognised on a national stage and I hope that it also inspires my students."
The semi finalists are now set to compete in a series of four cook offs at Westminster Kingsway College on September 13 and 16. Unfortunately, Robert will not be able to compete for the title, due to holiday commitments.
