The course was amazing and the Dome was such a beautiful building to work in. It was nice to be part of something new.

A graduate bride looking to teach Hospitality turned to a University of Derby campus to host her Big Day - the first former student to do so.

Laura Gale, 24, of Buxton, will graduate with a 2:1 for her BA (Hons) degree in Education and Hospitality in December. She wants to use her qualification to teach Hospitality studies - vital for the hotel and service industries - for one of the GCSE-equivalent vocational diplomas, set to be offered nationally to students from 2010.

She was one of the first degree students to attend the University of Derby’s Devonshire Campus, in Buxton, when it opened in September 2005. Laura liked the look of its dramatic Dome so much that she has just held her wedding reception there.

Laura and fiancé David Green, 31, also a Buxton resident and owner of The Toy Shop on Terrace Road, were married at the Buxton Methodist Church on Saturday November 3 and held their wedding reception at the Dome afterwards.

A delighted Laura said: "I was one of the first students at the Devonshire Campus. They were still restoring it then.

"I went there because it was local for me, as I had to carry on working while the course was on. I’d also gone to High Peak College (which was based at the University’s former Harpur Hill site), so I knew people connected with the campus already.

"The course was amazing and the Dome was such a beautiful building to work in. It was nice to be part of something new."

After three years enjoying life at the campus Laura felt there was no competition for where she and David wanted to hold the afternoon reception for their wedding day.

Around 80 guests sat down for the afternoon reception in the Dome’s restaurant on Saturday for a three course wedding feast. The couple are known to friends as Lolly and Dave.

Christine Sweetmore, Development Manager at the University of Derby Buxton, said: "It was a pleasure managing Laura and David’s wedding. The restaurant was transformed with an autumn theme and we had many excellent comments from guests throughout the celebrations.

"I wish Laura and David every happiness for the future."
