Dozens of delegates enjoyed a lively day of discussion recently at the University's Kedleston Road site about the nature of professionalism across disciplines led by two internationally renowned philosophers of education:

  • Professor David Carr (University of Edinburgh)
  • Professor Richard Pring (University of Oxford)

There were also a number of workshops on the day discussing a wide range of aspects of professionalism. Two papers were presented in each workshop with subjects including The European Professional, Professionalism as Therapy and Professionalism and Religion.

The event was organised by Professor Dennis Hayes and colleagues in the School of Education and the University Conference Office, and following the second talk, there was a book launch and wine reception, to celebrate the publication of Jenny Thompson's The Essential Guide to Understanding Special Educational Needs and Lynn Senior's The Essential Guide to Teaching 14-19 Diplomas (Pearson Education).
