From the UDSU President, James Beckett

The new year got off to a great start with a host of Re-Freshers' Fortnight events and activities to welcome new students back, as well as helping returning students settle back into University life after the Christmas break.

We have also been looking after our members' welfare needs by hosting safety awareness days in Buxton and Derby. And in January we congratulated the Class of 2011 at the Graduation Ball, which was a fantastic night of celebration at Derby's Assembly Rooms.

We have an exciting term ahead with many events and activities taking place including RAG (Raise and Give) Week and the ever important elections. During February and March the students will be electing our Executive Committee and part time elected officers and representatives for 2012 - 2013. You will see students campaigning across all the campuses, making their pledges and encouraging students to vote for them.

This is an exciting time for the Students' Union and we can't wait for election fever to take over!

It is also a busy term for our sports clubs who will be out representing Team Derby every week and for our student radio station d:one and magazine Dusted who will be busy writing, editing, producing and presenting!

It is an exciting time to be involved in the Students' Union and we are all looking forward to seeing what the next few months hold.
