UDSU President Plans Ahead
29 October 2012
James Beckett: President of the University of Derby Students' Union
"Over the last year the Students' Union has been working alongside the University to ensure our students have a fantastic experience during their time here at Derby. We are delighted with the recent National Students' Survey (NSS) results which saw the University achieve higher levels of satisfaction than in previous years.
"For the first time, this year's Survey included a question asking how satisfied students were with the Students' Union. Our score of 60%, slightly less than the 66% national average, was a starting point to build upon. It certainly gives us some work to do over the coming year, and we have already started work to unpick these results for the benefit of our current and future students.
"This year's Freshers' Fortnight events have been a great start - we've seen higher interest in participation in sport than ever before - with plenty of people signing up for our competitive clubs and looking to play for recreation too.
"We are also assessing students' hunger for large scale events such as May and Graduation Balls, and will set plans in motion depending on what we discover. However we know that our priority must be providing advice and representing our students. Each of the elected officers intend to put all of their energies into doing exactly that over the coming year."
