University of Derby Online (UDOL) has joined forces with Business Management School (BMS) in Sri Lanka for the delivery of three of its programmes; BA Accounting and Finance, BA Hospitality, and the MBA with Professional Top Up.

A team from Derby, comprising Philip Plowden, Julie Stone, Esther Jubb and Nick Slade, attended the official launch event of the partnership, held at the British High Commission in Sri Lanka in October.

Commenting on the new international venture, which follows UDOL's recent partnership agreement with HELP University in Malaysia, Julie Stone said: "Our partnership with BMS continues the expansion of our online learning pedagogy within the region of Southeast Asia and forms part of our strategic development plan. We look forward to working with BMS to deliver education development opportunities through our online learning model to Sri Lankan people."

Mr Robbie Bulloch, Acting British High Commissioner, welcomed the partnership, which, he said, "will add value to Sri Lankan education in the fields of business, finance and hospitality."

He further commented: "With UK qualifications dominating the education sector in Sri Lanka, the University of Derby will be able to tap into the thirst for British knowledge. Professional Top Up options also allow more students to accomplish both professional and academic qualifications in cost-effective ways, while creating a more skilled and balanced workforce."

BMS have been offering distance learning in the region for 13 years and have excellent contacts with industry and professional bodies, many of which attended the launch, including the Sri Lankan Institute of Business, which Derby hopes to forge strong links with.

The School will also act as an agent to recruit students to Derby - a model that International and UDOL hope to replicate in other markets.
