Trio Taking On Key Roles
9 November 2006
The University of Derby is delighted to announce the appointment of three new academic Deans.
We welcome Helen Langton, who has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health and Sciences (EHS). She is currently Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Coventry.
And there have been two key promotions. Professor David Gray, currently our Assistant Dean and Head of the School of Culture and Lifestyle at Buxton, is named as the new Dean of the University of Derby Buxton (UDB).
Fiona Church becomes Dean of the Faculty of Business, Computing and Law (BCL) and has undertaken a number of roles at University since starting here in 1992, including, most recently, Assistant Dean and Head of the School of Law.
Professor Michael Gunn, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching, has executive responsibility for EHS and UDB. He announced the appointments of Helen and David. He said: “Helen Langton will be taking up the position at the end of her period of notice in early spring 2007.
“At Coventry, she has been responsible for, among other things, Applied Research and Continuing Professional Development. Before this, Helen was Head of both the Adult and Child Nursing Schools at UWE having previously worked in nursing at various London hospitals.
“David has been responsible for developing the University’s higher education provision at Buxton over the past two years and has played a key role in many of the achievements we have seen in this time. He is passionate about the potential that exists at Buxton and how we can move to the next stage in its development.
“We congratulate them both on their appointments and wish them every success in their new roles.”
Professor Musa Mihsein, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic Development and who has executive responsibility for BCL and the Faculty of Arts, Design and Technology (ADT), announced Fiona’s appointment.
He said: “Fiona will be taking over responsibility for a Faculty which has some interesting challenges and some exciting opportunities. It’s a great opportunity for her and the Faculty and I know you will want to join with me in wishing her every success in her new role.
“During her time as Head of the Law School, she built up an enviable reputation for its quality of teaching, this being reflected in its fantastic result in the recent Teaching Quality Information (TQI) National Student Survey.”
