Dr Mike Gillespie

Everyone has been great to me during my time at Derby. I have been given many opportunities here and it has been a fantastic place to work.

One of the University of Derby's top academics, Dr Mike Gillespie, is moving on from the city - and the UK - this autumn to take up a role of Associate Dean at the State University of New York (SUNY).

Dr Gillespie leaves Derby after more than two years as Assistant Dean and Head of the School of Science. He has also been responsible for leading on international activities, income generation and online distance learning for the Faculty of Education, Health and Sciences (EHS).

At SUNY's Central New York Center, Empire State College, Dr Gillespie will oversee student and academic support services and faculty development initiatives, as well as assist in the overall management of the centre's seven academic sites throughout Central New York

Dr Gillespie said: "Everyone has been great to me during my time at Derby. I have been given many opportunities here and it has been a fantastic place to work. I'd like to think that I've also put a lot back into the institution."

Professor Guy Daly, the University of Derby's Dean of EHS, said: "The Faculty has made significant advancements under Mike's leadership and I would like to thank him for the successful execution of his Assistant Dean role."

Dr Gillespie will leave the University on October 26.
