Teenagers and parents from across the High Peak are invited to a free open information about University fees and finance

It's vital that people are properly informed and have all the facts before making a decision that will have a huge impact on their future.

Sixth form and college students across the High Peak are being encouraged to make an educated decision about their future by coming along to an open evening at the University of Derby Buxton on March 8 aimed at clearing up confusion around the costs of higher education.

The free 'Fees and Finance Information Event' will take place at the Dome, Buxton, on Thursday March 8 from 6pm. It will provide young people and parents with the information they need to make sense of the new higher education tuition fees structure from September 2012, and the opportunity to ask experts questions about university courses and financing them, such as how and when tuition fees are repaid.

The event follows the news that tuition fees at English universities will rise from £3,290 per year to between £7,000 and £9,000 for students beginning degree courses in September (2012). The University of Derby is one of the few universities charging tuition fees that reflect the true cost of the courses on offer, with annual fees on average under £7,495.

Peter Dewhurst, Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, said:  "We take the increase in tuition fees very seriously and appreciate that the decision of whether, what and where to study a degree is harder to make than ever before.

"Having spoken to parents and young people we know that there's still a lot of confusion out there, which is why we're holding an event of this nature. It's vital that people are properly informed and have all the facts before making a decision that will have a huge impact on their future."
