The course is great as it offers a good balance between theory and practical work and my personal tutor and other students have been very supportive in making Buxton feel like a second home.

An ambitious International Hospitality Management student from Taiwan who recently graduated from the University of Derby Buxton, was so impressed with the quality of learning on offer at the University, he encouraged his sister to follow in his footsteps.

Chih-Hua 'Jack' Cheng, who graduated last November, previously studied with the Swiss Hotel Management School before moving to Buxton to complete an MA in International Hospitality Management.

Chih-Hua said: "It was a dream for me to come to here and studying at the University has given me the opportunity to develop my skills and to learn so much about the hospitality industry."

Chih-Hua's sister  was so impressed with her brother's stories of the University and life in Derbyshire, she chose to make the big move to the UK last July to pursue her own hospitality management career.

Yu-En, who is now studying towards an MA in International Hospitality Management, said: "Ever since I arrived my brother has been really helpful, showing me where the local amenities are and how to set up a UK bank account.

"The course is great as it offers a good balance between theory and practical work and my personal tutor and other students have been very supportive in making Buxton feel like a second home."

After gaining some experience in the UK, Chih-Hua hopes to return to Taiwan to teach hospitality related subjects in a college or university.

The University of Derby Buxton is a great place to study and offers a variety of work-based learning courses with state-of-the-art facilities, giving students a fantastic opportunity to gain real world practical and professional experience.
