Support Charity Challenge
2 December 2010
"I am Lorraine Henshaw, a lecturer in Nursing and Healthcare Practice at the University, where I have worked for the last six years.
"In April 2011 I am going to take on one of the biggest, if not the biggest challenge of my life. I am going to horse-ride across the North African country of Jordan, covering around 30km a day for seven days to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
"'That's easy' I hear you say - all I have to do is sit on the horse! But actually this challenge is much much more than that and preparing for this challenge starts today - six months before the event. I have to get fit, lose weight and start riding again which I haven't done regularly for many years.
"Cancer has touched all of us, I am sure, in one way or another through personal experience or friends and relatives who have battled this disease. For me my grandma fought against cancer and lost, but this left me with a determination to succeed in her memory. I would like to raise money for Marie Curie because of its vital role in supporting people with cancer and their families.
"Please join me in this quest by donating money for this challenge.
"As much or as little as you can afford, it all helps. The money I raise will go directly to Marie Curie and donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor me now!"
