Students Hit Great Outdoors For A Wild Experience
6 August 2012
Diverse projects ranging from digital storytelling and biodiversity in business, to lizard and butterfly surveys involving Derby students are underway.
Thirty students studying for a range of courses have accessed the WildVolunteering project, designed to help them develop their knowledge and life skills, introduce them to new communities, provide valuable work experience and give them the confidence to move forward into employment.
The initiative is being led by Beverley Rhodes of WildDerby, and the University of Derby Student Services and Community Relations teams.
The projects include surveys of birds, dragonflies, moths, lizards and wildflowers, and supporting local events.
Bursary funding for students is available to break down barriers to involvement, such as travel or equipment costs. At the end of the project students will produce a report and access to work references which can then be presented to prospective employers.
The next WildVolunteering project will start in October this year and students are encouraged to get involved when it goes live.
