Students Go For Gold In Prestigious Competition

A team of Hospitality and Professional Culinary Arts students cooked a specially designed menu for guests at the Hospitality Show at the NEC in Birmingham on January 23 as they competed in heats of the NestlĂ©'s Toque d'Or® competition 2013. The 2013 competition is the the 25th anniversary of NestlĂ© Toque d'Or® which carries the enviable reputation for inspiring and challenging catering students up and down the country.
The University of Derby Buxton students, Andrew Collis, 20, from Loughborough, Joe Penrose, 19, from Driffield, who are both in the second year of a Foundation degree in Professional Culinary Arts degree, Reece Straw, 20, from Nottingham who is in the first year of a Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Join Honours degree and second year student Prabjot Ragbotra, age 20 from Birmingham, took the roles of front of house, chef and commis chef at the heats in Birmingham.
To make it through to the heats the team had to create a two course menu.
Their Chef-Lecturer, Robert Stordy, said: "This is probably the most respected student team catering competition and is highly regarded within the industry. It was a challenge, but the students did fantatsically well, they will now have to wait until all the heats have been completed before they know whether they have made it through to the finals. We've got our fingers crossed."
