University of Derby Buxton students were shortlisted in the Best Student Event category at the UK: Event Awards 2012

A group of University of Derby Buxton students were recognised for their efforts and skills in event management when they were shortlisted for the Best Student Event category at the UK: Event Awards 2012, held at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Shante Tenn, 22 from Romford, who is currently in the final year of a BA (Hons) Events Management degree, was one of the talented student group shortlisted for the award.

She said: "We were shortlisted for our work putting on the End of Year Awards and After Party for University students at our Campus. Our turn out was fantastic with over 150 students and lecturers attending the evening.

"It was the first event of its kind at the Campus, and provided an opportunity to recognise the successes of students and lecturers for their work during the academic year. It was also a celebration and sigh of relief for the final year students to congratulate them on completing their dissertations.

"Going down to the UK: Event Awards was really inspiring as it was a chance to see just what is happening in the events management industry. It told me, and the students who are organising next year's Buxton End of Year Awards, that imagination, creativity and perseverance are vital."
