Spa Town Hosts Inaugural Spa Forum
8 July 2011
Health, beauty and spa professionals from around the world gathered at the University of Derby Buxton recently to discuss issues of responsibility and sustainability affecting their industry.
The inaugural Buxton Spa Forum, organised by Dome Events Management, attracted 45 guests from around the world - some travelling from as far as the USA and Thailand - to hear from experts such as Elemis' Director of UK sales Noella Gabriel, and Andrew Gibson from Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, China.
Topics including the importance of sustainability, the responsibilities of the spa to its clients, and proving the efficacy of treatments and products, were explored through keynote speeches and round-table discussions on 23 and 24 June.
The Assistant Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, where students can study a BSc in International Spa Management or an MA in International Spa Management addressed delegates on 'Graduate training; has the spa industry got it right?'
Tara Silverman Dome Events Management Organiser, said: "We were delighted at the fantastic response to the first ever Buxton Spa Forum. It is great to be able to tap into the University's expertise and the town's unique history in staging this new event, we hope that it proves successful and is the start of a new annual event."
Andrew Gibson of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group said: "The University is doing an excellent job of training students in the skills of spa management, as well as giving them the practical skills to run its commercial spa and instilling a realistic level of expectation for entry into employment. Mandarin Oriental would like to support this type of training establishment and shall be looking closely at some of its graduates."
The Buxton Spa Forum ran at the University of Derby's Buxton Campus from 23 - 24 June 2011 and was sponsored by Elemis, Barr + Wray and Dalesauna.
