Society Accreditation For Courses

5 May 2011

GSL

The Geological Society of London has accredited the University of Derby's BSc (Hons) Geology and the Joint Honours Geology (Major pathway).

It is excellent news for the course team for Geology, part of Geographical, Earth and Environmental Sciences in the School of Science, which made the recent application.

The accreditation starts with immediate effect, so that all of the current third year students on these programmes who will be completing this summer, will graduate with a degree accredited by the GSL.

Accreditation shows national recognition for the degree courses. Gaining a GSL-accredited degree will reduce the amount of experience required for applications for Chartered Geologist or Chartered Scientist status, for students wishing to go down that route of getting professional recognition, which is important in some areas of employment for geoscience graduates.
