Teams of students at the University of Derby Buxton fought it out to be crowned quiz masters at a 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' style learning session recently.

At the session, organised and led by lecturers Eleni Michopoulou and Nikolaos Pappas, around 50 second year students taking Research Methods modules as part of their degree course were challenged to answer a number of questions that put their research methods knowledge and ability to the test.

After the exciting knockout competition, which included multiple choice questions, tests of definition and use of statistics, only one team was left standing - and each of its members won a Research Methods textbook to help them during their final year dissertations.

Eleni Michopoulou, Lecturer in Business Management, said: "We wanted to do something a bit different with research methods learning, and so we thought the quiz competition would inject some fun and interest into the subject and ground it in its practical application. We hope that we achieved this."

On the winning team were Yasmin Rajab, Toni Underhill, Abbie Brown, Matthew Mairis, Jessica Huntley and Jennifer Bull; pictured here with lecturers Elina Michopoulou and Nikolaos Pappas.

Jessica Huntley, who is studying research methods as part of her Foundation degree in Professional Culinary Arts, said: "I feel the session was useful as it gave us the opportunity to put our knowledge to the test.

"The quiz brought out a competitive streak in teams and enabled students to strive to do better. Of course I was happy that we won, as I personally felt that I wasn't that great at the subject itself which has given me some more confidence."
