It's a great event and a fantastic opportunity for me to meet people and talk to them about my work

More than 50 artists will create a display of truly beautiful Christmas and other gift ideas for this year's Banks Mill 'Open Studios' event.

The free exhibition of hand made and unique goods for sale by artists - many of them based at the University's Banks Mill business incubation unit at 71 Bridge Street, Derby - is now in its twelfth year and has become a firm pre-Christmas favourite with discerning shoppers.

This year the 'Open Studios' event will be open to visitors on:

  • Friday November 25 , from 5pm to 8pm
  • Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27, from 10am to 4pm.

It will feature displays of fine art, jewellery, ceramics, photographs, graphic and web designs, fashions and textiles for sale in an atmosphere where shoppers can ask questions of the people who created them.

Banks Mill has 38 studios on five floors occupied by a wealth of designers, photographers, painters and other talented people running their own businesses. It is one of four University business incubation unit sites, run under the 'Evolve' brand name.

Some of the artists whose creations will be on sale include:

  • Mig Holder, maker of beautiful, unique, hand-crafted garments
  • Lyanne McCredie, designer of stunning stained glass panels
  • Artist Heather Horsley, who exhibited some never before seen illustrations.

Heather said: "This will be the third time I have been part of the Banks Mill Open Studios event. It's a great event and a fantastic opportunity for me to meet people and talk to them about my work."
