Open Day To Promote Opportunity

2 June 2011

iD Centre

iD Centre in London Road, Derby.

The iD Centre, the University of Derby's dedicated rail and technology business incubation facility, is holding a Summer Open Day to show local businesses how incubation centres can help new and fledgling companies.

The event, which is taking place on Thursday 9 June at the iD Centre, on London Road in Derby from 12pm to 2.30pm, will provide local businesses with the opportunity to look around the centre and find out more about the range of business support services that are on offer.

At the event, guests will be invited to enjoy lunch before going on a guided tour of the centre and its facilities. Later, guests will have the opportunity to explore the centre at their leisure and talk to some of current tenants about how the iD Centre has helped with the development of their businesses.

The iD Centre is much more than simply office space, it is a business incubation centre, which offers a number of benefits for small and developing businesses. This includes bespoke, practical business support, subsidised rental costs, fully furnished office space with data and telephone systems, meeting and conference facilities and much more.

Louise Jones, centre manager, said: "Business incubation offers new and developing businesses much-needed support during their formative years and the iD Centre is one of the most successful facilities of its kind in the region.

"Our Open Day is an excellent opportunity to introduce people to the Centre and the idea of business incubation. Guests will be able to look around our facilities and meet some of our current tenants, which we hope will give them a better idea of what it's like to operate a business from here."

The iD Centre is a fully serviced business incubation facility specially for technology-based and engineering businesses, with 32 fully furnished office units ranging from 105 sq ft to 438 sq ft.

All units have a staffed reception, meeting rooms with video conferencing facility, kitchen facilities, subsidised restaurant, free parking and a 360-degree business incubation support package. The iD Centre is supported by the EDRF, a programme, which provides funding to economic regeneration schemes and organisations regionally.

The University of Derby is proud to be part of Universities UK-led Universities Week, which is running from 13-19 June 2011. It will be getting involved with national activities highlighting the surprising links and relationships that universities have with the people and businesses in their local communities, of which this story is just one example.
