On Friday (March 2 2012), the University of Derby Buxton welcomed special guest MP for the High Peak, Andrew Bingham, to launch its 'Take A Step For Fairtrade' Campaign, running throughout Fairtrade Fortnight (February 27 - March 11 212).

During the Fortnight, students and staff at the campus as well as visitors to the Dome are being invited to make a paper footprint indicating a resolution to take the next step in their own commitment to fairtrade - like switching to a fairtrade brand of tea, coffee or chocolate.

It is hoped that a line of 440 paper footprint commitments will eventually encircle the balcony of the University's historic Dome - a fantastic contribution to the Campaign's national target of 1,500,000 steps.

The launch party, which included Dr Peter Dewhurst, Dean of Faculty, the Mayor and Mayoress of the High Peak, and members of the Buxton Fairtrade Town Steering Group, also sat down to tea in the Dome Restaurant and enjoyed Fairtrade cakes baked by Buxton College students.
