Movie Man's Life From Bond to Bollywood
6 December 2011
Film and TV Production manager Terry Bamber will talk about his career on Wednesday 7 December in the Heap Lecture Theatre, Kedleston Road site.
I want to share with the audience my experiences of a career that started when I was 14 in the school holidays and which still offers me a wonderful livelihood as I approach my 56th birthday
”Terry Bamber
One of the top team behind British super-spy James Bond's last five film outings will lift the lid on his own long career in movies at a University of Derby talk.
Terry Bamber has worked in film and television for 40 years. He helped Lara Croft raid tombs, aided American comic actor Jack Black in taking on Gulliver's Travels last year, 2010, and enabled Pierce Brosnan (in Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day) and Daniel Craig (in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) to shine while on Her Majesty's secret service.
He will talk about his career to students and the public at a free lecture to be held in the Heap Lecture Theatre at the University's main Kedleston Road site in Derby at 12 noon on Wednesday 7 December.
Terry, 55, has worked as a Production Manager - responsible for ensuring actors and crew are where and when they should be during a film's long shoot - and also as a First Assistant Director on films.
His early career included work on TV comedy series such as Scottish sketch show Absolutely, and Jeeves and Wooster, starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. He is still involved with TV, having worked on BBC's 2010 gritty crime drama Luther.
Terry is also currently involved in the Indian 'Bollywood' film industry, with his own production company.
He said: "A career in the entertainment industry can be a case of 'hare' or 'tortoise'. There are those that rise quickly and race through a very successful early career, only to disappear, and people who are still there working after 50 years.
"I want to share with the audience my experiences of a career that started when I was 14 in the school holidays and which still offers me a wonderful livelihood as I approach my 56th birthday."
Professor Jason Lee, Head of Film & Media with Creative & Professional Writing at the University, added: "Since his early days Terry has mixed with some of the acting greats, gone on to become Production Manager for a significant part of the Bond series and many other well-known films, and now works in Bollywood with his own film company.
"This is a great opportunity for our film and media students, and the public, to hear from someone who has seen the film industry from many angles and the changes it's gone through."
Entry to Terry's talk will be free but to book a place please email Professor Lee at j.lee@derby.ac.uk providing name, contact details and saying how many places are required.
