Milo's Got The White Stuff
24 February 2006
Buxton student and top UK skier Milo De Glanville is riding on 2006 Winter Olympics fever with his own snow sports extravaganza.
The winter-sports-mad Events Management student is organising a top ski and snowboard competition in France next month featuring some of Europe's top professional and amateur freestyle skiers and snowboarders.
This week at the Torino Olympics the Schoch brothers from Switzerland dominated the snowboard slalom giant parallel and caught spectators' imaginations putting this popular growing sport in the spotlight.
Milo De Glanville, 21, has teamed up with the University of Derby Buxton and major fashion brand White Stuff to lay on the event to further showcase snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
This year's event is the third of its kind he's organised. Called White Stuff Sick Trix 06, it's for freestyle skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts designed by riders for riders.
Milo commented: "This course is a perfect way for me to carry out my professional objectives, moving from small event organisation to larger professional events. It's also enabling to deliver more to White Stuff."
Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Events Management, Conor Moss, said: "Within the Events Management industry people like Milo are needed for their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. It's great kudos for the University that one of our Events students is masterminding this.
"He's already shown great enterprise in gaining sponsorship. What our course provides is the business and theoretical perspectives to sharpen his professional skills."
As a top British skier Milo De Glanville is the ideal host for this event: a member of the White Stuff freestyle ski team, the clothing brand's own set of riders on the cutting edge of the sport.
The White Stuff team tests to extremes all aspects of White Stuff's clothing range for fabric performance, styling functionality and technical R&D features. Milo skis and snowboards in top national and international events and has followed the sport's evolution from the early days.
Sick Trix 06 runs for two days from 20-21 March in Val d'Isère, France, starting with a qualifying event for riders. There's £2,000 of winnings to be given out as £50 prizes each time a rider pulls a 'sick trick' (an exceptionally good move). For event information, email Milo at: milo@esb-prod.com.
