Melvyn Bragg To Deliver Arkwright Lecture

10 March 2005

Distinguished broadcaster, writer and novelist Melvyn Bragg visits the University of Derby on Friday 11 March to deliver this year's Arkwright Society Lecture. Lord Bragg will address the subject of 'Our Mother Tongue', drawing on material from his recent radio and television programmes and written study of the English Language. Describing the 'adventure' of English, Melvyn Bragg will trace the 1,500 year history of our curious mother tongue. The event has proved tremendously popular.

All places were taken within days of it first being advertised.

The University's relationship with the Arkwright Society began with the establishment of the Cromford Centre at Arkwright's Mill in 1993.

An annual event, the Arkwright Society Lecture aims to address historical and cultural themes and issues of conservation in the natural and built environment with a regional and local focus.
