Lights changed from red to green for a Derby-based lifestyle brand on Wednesday 18 May  when it showcased the latest addition to its promotional repertoire - the Just Cool Runnings Cool Kart.

Emerging lifestyle brand Just Cool, which is based in a Business Start Up unit at the University of Derby's Enterprise Centre, unveiled its Cool Karts to colleagues, contributors and supporters.

The Cool Karts are branded and transported to large events where they act as promotional vehicles. So far this year the seven karts, currently branded up by sponsors Moto Brox, NRG Fuels, BNI, Two Valleys and Imperial Commercial, have attracted plenty of interest at appearances at the Sandbach Transport Festival and the Derby 10k Fun Run.

The Derby designed and produced karts are a result of some real creativity and expertise found within the University of Derby's Enterprise Centre. Roy Smoothe from Just Cool explains: "We worked with other small businesses in the Enterprise Centre on the development and production of the karts, including Architectural Designers EKV who designed the kart, Black Apricot who designed the Just Cool Runnings logo, G2L who provided software support and Action Coach Neale Lewis. We wanted to include them all in this celebration launch so they can share in our success so far."

Abbey Ward Councillor Ajit Atwal attended the launch to give his support for the karts. He said: "I really hope that the karts are a success for Just Cool. If they and the brand take off it will be great for Derby." The launch was also attended by the Enterprise Centre's Head of Business Incubation, Lee Sanderson-Mann.

Roy Smoothe from Just Cool, said: "The launch was a real success, and now we're looking forward to the karts' next appearance at the Le Mans Motor festival in Bolton where they will be used to raise money for charity. We're looking for more sponsors, so businesses who would like to have a presence and gain publicity at these events should get in touch."

As the inspiration for the karts was the film Cool Runnings, where the Jamaican Bobsleigh team trains with a similar kart for the Winter Olympics, there remains a strong connection between the Just Cool brand and bobsleigh. In fact, Just Cool has worked with Team GB Bobsleigh athlete David Smith to raise his profile and public visibility, and he has been pivotal in bringing the Cool Kart concept to life.

Just Cool aims to take the link with bobsleigh forward as it works to become a well known and popular lifestyle brand associated with sport, achievement, courage and commitment. They hope to do so using the karts for future promotional work for the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Winter 2014 Olympics.

Just Cool are happy to attend charity events or make appearances at public, sporting, private or business functions. Companies interested in becoming sponsors for the karts should contact Roy on 07930 848057 or 07902 092371.
