Jane Austen's Letters Brought To Life
24 January 2012
The experiences, frustrations and pleasures of the celebrated British author Jane Austen will be brought to life on stage at Derby Theatre through her letters.
The Letters of Jane Austen will be performed at the Derby Theatre Studio at 2pm and 8pm on Saturday (January 28). Tickets are £8 and £5 from the Box Office on 01332 255800.
The production is illuminated throughout with flashes of Austen's wit, for example: "We met Dr Hall in such deep mourning that either his mother, his wife or himself must be dead!"
Her letters show the unfolding of a family saga over different generations; with births, marriages and deaths, family tensions, and even the occasional whiff of scandal.
Original music is by composer Adam Howell.
The cast - Uncontained Arts - are a pioneering and versatile theatre company made up of University of Derby graduates. The team is based at Derby Theatre and runs several youth theatres for schools, produces musical evenings and tours the country each year with their latest original shows.
