International Student Mingle at Buxton

International student at Buxton get to know each other.
Over 45 students attended the Buxton International Student Mingle which took place in the Fine Dining Restaurant in The Dome on Thursday October 13.
This was the second annual International Student Mingle held at the Buxton Campus. Students from countries around the globe including Taiwan, Malaysia, Romania and Germany attended giving the event a vibrant atmosphere.
The event started at 4pm with an introduction from the International Student Advisor followed by a presentation by the Multicultural Society. This was followed by an icebreaker, a 'two-minute-mixer' with the aim to get the students talking to each other.
Ten staff members contributed to the event from both welfare and academic backgrounds.
Students on the hospitality and culinary arts courses were on hand serving canapes and water and the bar was staffed by students too.
The event was attended by Lukasz Gazda, an Outreach Officer from Derbyshire Police.
Lukasz moved to England from Poland and is also a University of Derby graduate. He helped to deliver a short presentation to the students about his journey here in England.
Dr Peter Dewhurst, Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, was there to welcome students and offer guidance.
Dr Dewhurst said: "I truly value the presence of overseas students as they bring perspectives that can enrich the experiences, knowledge and understanding of both our staff and their fellow students.
"This is essential as we deliver programmes that serve the needs of industries that are global in their reach and significance. My key message therefore is to ensure that all students look to gain the most from their time at the University by embracing the study and leisure opportunities that are available to them here in Buxton."
