Hive Derby was launched at the University's main Kedleston Road site.

Graduates young and old will have the chance to reconnect with friends they may have lost touch with, plus the June event will also provide an exciting networking opportunity to those looking to develop their professional careers.

The University of Derby will add its own major event to 2012's calendar by hosting a landmark celebration marking 20 years as a university.

To recognise this milestone, the University will hold a 20 Year Graduate Celebration on June 23 (2012). It's the first reunion event for students who graduated after 1992, when Derbyshire College of Higher Education became the University of Derby.

A specially commissioned website, Hive Derby at www.hivederby.com, has been designed to encourage graduates to reconnect with the University and to friends they may have lost touch with. It will also act as an information hub, providing members with details of the reunion event and keeping them informed of Hive Derby activity throughout the year.

Professor John Coyne, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Derby, said: "The events taking place in 2012 are sure to put Great Britain on the map, and as our 20th birthday falls in the same year, we were keen to make our mark by holding our '20 Year Graduate Celebration'.

"Graduates young and old will have the chance to reconnect with friends they may have lost touch with, plus the June event will also provide an exciting networking opportunity to those looking to develop their professional careers. So if you're a University of Derby graduate that's keen to reconnect, join Hive Derby today."

The Hive Derby concept is simple; graduates upload their photographs to the website and complete a short form providing information on what course they studied, when they graduated and what they are doing now.

Each graduate is given their own honeycomb and as the number of graduates joining the Hive grows, so will the site - just like a real beehive.

The Hive Derby concept was designed by Fluid Ideas, a creative marketing and design agency based in Derby, which is owned by Phil Harvey. He graduated from the University of Derby in 1997 with a BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree.

Phil added: "It's been great to work on this landmark project with my old university. It'll be interesting to see Hive Derby grow and become a legacy for the University.

"I'm also looking forward to the June event so I can reconnect with long lost friends from my course and see what they're doing now."
