Open days provide students considering coming to our University with a fantastic opportunity to get a real feel for the place, as well as finding out more about the courses they're particularly interested in.

Professor John Coyne, Vice Chancellor.

Students considering going to university are invited to attend an open day event, taking place at the University of Derby on Saturday 4 February from 10am - 3pm.

A series of talks and presentations will be running throughout the day to give prospective students an insight into the courses that are of interest to them. There will also be opportunities to find out more about student funding, with talks designed to explain changes to how tuition fees are borrowed and repaid for students starting in 2012.

Professor John Coyne, Vice Chancellor at the University of Derby, said: "Open days provide students considering coming to our University with a fantastic opportunity to get a real feel for the place, as well as finding out more about the courses they're particularly interested in.

"The event is designed to be informal and informative; giving students and their parents the time to explore the facilities we offer, speak to our academic and support teams, and get the answers to any questions they may have."

In addition to talks on the different subject areas, careers, student funding and preparing for university, visitors will also be able to book a 'halls of residence tour' to see the University accommodation, or a 'campus tour', led by a student ambassador.

Professor Coyne adds: "Making the decision to go university can be life-changing in so many ways. Not only are you able to continue your studies in a subject that you're passionate about, during your university years you will also forge meaningful friendships and gain important work and life experience.

"All of this will equip you with the skills required to successfully move onto the next stage of your life; whether that's into the career of your dreams or post graduate study of some kind. It all starts with getting the feel for the place where this transformation will begin - that's why Open Days are so important."

The University of Derby Open Day is taking place on Saturday 4 February at the Kedleston Road site and the Buxton Campus. For further information or to download an Open Day guide visit www.derby.ac.uk/opendays
