First 'Creative Garden' To Help Businesses Bloom

Film, fancy footwork and fine cakes will all be represented at a major trade exhibition featuring more than 50 creative businesses and people from around the East Midlands.

The 'Creative Garden' exhibition, to be held at the University of Derby's Enterprise Centre in Bridge Street, Derby, from 10am-5pm tomorrow, Saturday 26 February, will be the first in a planned series of public and business events, to support and grow the creative industries in the region.

It is being funded by the University of Derby's Centre for Entrepreneurial Management, through its European Development funded Innovation Axis programme, to promote new enterprises

At tomorrow's exhibition will be displays by talented people involved in film, photography, art, design, culinary arts, music, illustration and many other creative pursuits.

The event will allow them to exhibit their work; and network with other people also newly running creative businesses, and with potential suppliers and customers.

Exhibitor talks and workshops during the day will include those by:

  • Inspirative Arts - a community arts organisation supporting adults with learning disabilities through creative and expressive therapies

  • Subism - street art trader and graffiti artists' materials supplier;
  • Deda - the Derby dance centre.

Other exhibitors will include cake experts The Cake Ladies design company Just Cool Clothing and filmmakers Light Films Group.

Dan Lamoon - Company Director of Derby and Leicester arts magazine From Dusk 2 Dawn and co-organiser of the 'Creative Garden' event - said: "We've carried on the 'Creative Garden' theme by having a 'Tool Shed' area on the day where people can get technical and equipment help for their businesses; as well as a 'Greenhouse"' where they can find out more about grants and business advice, for those looking to start up a business
