The University of Derby and Derby County Football Club are gearing up for a 'Super Saturday' in Derby on Sky Sports!

The Rams' npower Championship fixture at home against Portsmouth will be screened live on Saturday, 6 November at 5.20pm.

The University is hosting a midweek press conference with Derby County manager Nigel Clough and one of the first team players at its Kedleston Road site on Wednesday. The press conference is an example of the club's drive to engage even more closely within its community.

And the fixture itself provides a perfect opportunity for the University of Derby to promote its Team Derby brand - to promote sporting excellence across the University and the wider county. Derby County Football Club is one of Team Derby's key sporting partners, and has chosen the Portsmouth match, in front of the Sky Sports cameras, to offer maximum national exposure for the Team Derby brand.

Before Saturday's kick-off, Team Derby's Ravens cheerleaders will be providing entertainment to the crowd with their routine, and a giant Team Derby banner will surf the crowd in the stands before and during the match.

And at half time, Team Derby ambassador and University of Derby student Yee Ming Low will be performing tricks on the Pride Park pitch. Yee, studying for a business and management degree at Derby, holds three world records for balancing a ball on his head. A certificate will also be awarded to him by one of the Rams players.

He has become a YouTube sensation with his skills and before enrolling on his course at the University of Derby, had trained with Manchester United soccer stars Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

Team Derby is committed to developing sport at a local, regional and national level, and is engaging with a range of partners to increase sporting participation, performance and opportunity.

These key outcomes are the fundamental elements of Team Derby which has the following targets:

  • 20% more students doing more sports by 2012-13
  • Achieving a top 50 place in the British University and Colleges Sports championship
  • Establishing a recognised coaching/officiating centre of excellence
  • Improved talent development system
  • Creation of sports facilities which are fit for the future.

Some of Team Derby's other partners include: Derventio Excel Swim Squad, British Rowing, England Netball, England Hockey, British Orienteering and the Amateur Boxing Association.
