Fair Treat For Festive ‘Foodies’
6 December 2007
Christmas is coming...the shopper’s getting stressed.
If this modern take on an old rhyme sounds like you, there is an alternative to the usual ‘supermarket sweep’ approach to the festive season.
You could treat yourself to a visit to a traditional food and drink fair, featuring a wealth of locally produced products, in the heart of the Peak District.
A Xmas Food & Drink Fair will be held at Thornbridge Hall, off the A6020 at Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire, from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 16 December. Admission will be free.
It is the second year the event - part of the University of Derby Buxton’s Food from the Peak District initiative and organised by Thornbridge Hall in partnership with Peak District Foods - has been held, to promote local produce.
Sheila Russell, Project Leader for Food from the Peak District, based at the Institute of Tourism & Hospitality at the University of Derby Buxton, said: "This is a great way to buy fresh, delicious, local food in time for the Christmas break and have a relaxing day out at the same time in a beautiful location."
Around 30 retailers will be selling products including handmade chocolates, traditional puddings, rare breed meats, smoked produce, herb oils and preserves.
Thornbridge Hall micro brewery will also be selling its own range of award-winning fine ales.
There will be the chance during the day to listen to Castleton Brass Band and explore the stately home’s gardens.
