Sports experts from the University of Derby Buxton went to Germany to train a multi-national group of martial arts experts in the very latest sports coaching techniques.

As part of an ongoing partnership with the World Martial Arts Council (WMAC), the University's Programme Leader (and Fellow of the WMAC) Charles Spring, and Lecturer in Sport Coaching and Development, Lee Rylands, travelled to Heidelberg, Germany, to deliver their Certificate in Sports Coaching to members of the European Wing Tsun Organisation (EWTO).  The 48 members of the EWTO had travelled to Germany from Switzerland, Austria, Bulgaria and the USA for the three-day coaching event during June.

Charles Spring said: "We developed a number of programmes in Sports Coaching with the WMAC specifically for martial arts coaches, and this was the first time we delivered the Certificate in Sports Coaching outside of the UK.

"The students will now take back what they learned to their martial arts clubs and classes, and we're sure that this session will go on to improve the quality and standard of coaching around Europe."

Professor Keith Kernspecht, Headman and Chief-Instructor for the EWTO, said: "The three-day coaching event was very successful, and the feedback from the students was excellent. This first event convinced us of the high quality of the University of Derby Buxton's program and its academics.

"There is a great future in this cooperation and we are looking forward to delivering high quality education to more of our instructors."

The University of Derby Buxton's Certificate and Diploma in Sports Coaching can be studied part time from the UK and overseas, as the majority of the content is delivered online.
