'Euro-Graduates' Fly In For University Reunion
17 July 2012
Europe is facing tough times but there will be plenty of international
co-operation when graduates of a University of Derby course aimed at improving countries' relations cross the globe for their reunion.
The University's BTEC HND Business and Finance (European) was established in 1989 in response to employers' interest in educating young people about the then new single European market, harmonising cross-border European laws and resolving policy discrepancies.
Graduates from its 1993 to 1995 course intake will hold a reunion at the Academy Bar of the Students' Union, at the University's main Kedleston Road site in Derby, on Saturday 21 July. The get-together has been organised by David Corr, the course's former programme leader, now retired.
David said: "It's been nearly 17 years since some of the graduates have met up. Although I keep in touch with many through social media, I'm really looking forward to seeing them again in person and in particular welcoming the group back to the University, so they can see how it's changed since they've left."
Around 40 graduates are travelling from across the UK as well as further afield, including from Australia and Ireland, to meet up with their University friends.
Laura Ratcliffe, Alumni Relations Officer for the University of Derby, said: "This reunion follows the University's 20 Year Graduate Reunion held in June. It promises to be a great event for everyone from the course to get back together and relive their time in Derby.
"This unique course was certainly a catalyst for graduates to develop themselves and their careers."
If you're a graduate who studied this course in the early 1990s, or you know someone who did, and would like to come along to the event, you'll find all the details at Facebook: Derby Uni Euro's Reunion - 21ST JULY 2012.
