eSubmission Project Makes A Good Start
2 April 2012
Staff opinions are being sought on the University's new eSubmission system, which was launched by LEI on behalf of the Executive at the beginning of this academic year (2011-12).
eSubmission allows students to submit a digital copy of their work online, which can then be marked and given feedback on by the academic accessing it through UDo Course Resources.
The University implemented the eSubmission system at the start of this academic year to improve student satisfaction and achievement, allowing for better tutor feedback to be given electronically - an aspect addressed in the annual National Student Survey.
The University's eSubmission system was used for the first time in Semester One this year. More than 20,000 pieces of student coursework have been submitted with over 600 during the Christmas vacation period.
Initial system and technical issues with regard to speed, access and IT are being addressed successfully by the project team. The eSubmission Project Board Chair, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Liz Barnes, asked that a message of thanks and congratulations be sent to academic colleagues who had engaged so positively with the project.
As part of the ongoing communication with staff regarding the project, a user evaluation survey has just been launched. The invitation to participate in the survey has been sent to all participating academic staff.
Its findings will be used to ensure the system develops to meet student and staff needs as the project moves into Phase Two; with the introduction of Level 5, 6 and 7 programmes from Sept 2012, and further opportunities for training.
