Buxton students are asking local residents to donate items to be sold at auction for charity. The auction, which is taking place on February 24, is part of the students' efforts to raise £1,000 for an African village over the next few months.
Students at the University of Derby Buxton are dedicating their spare time to fundraising for Village Aid, and the money they raise will go to a village in the Gambia.
The antique auction will take place in Buxton's iconic Devonshire Dome at 7pm on February 24 2011, but the students need people to donate items to be sold. Items can be big or small, but must be in a good state of repair.
The donated items will be auctioned off, and the money from their sale will go to Village Aid.
Chair of the University's Fundraising Committee, Events Management and Adventure Tourism (BA Hons), student Katarzyna Szelest, said: "Our aim is to build up a long- term relationship with the village and help its people get better access to education and health care.
"We want to identify their exact needs so that the help we give is useful and effective. We hope to visit Africa at some point to see how Village Aid is helping, and also learn something about African culture", she added.
