Derby Issues Advice For Students On A Level Results Day
13 August 2012
In a year when making a decision about Higher Education is more difficult than ever before, the University of Derby will be opening its phone lines from 7am on A level results day to provide expert advice and information about the places it has available for this September.
The University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Coyne, said: "This has been a very difficult year for A level students as they seek to make the right decision about the qualifications they need to pursue a career they aspire to, whilst balancing that decision with the impact of higher tuition fees, and of course repaying them.
"We have worked hard to be upfront about the costs of a degree at the University of Derby and to provide information about how and when students repay their fees. We continue to stress that students do not need to pay their fees upfront, this is taken care of by the Student Loans Company, and repayments do not start until graduates are earning over £21,000 per year, so it's not a case of needing to be rich to come to university.
"However, we expect many young people who remain undecided about whether or not to go to university to make their ultimate decision on August 16, and so we are gearing up for a very busy day."
The University of Derby's clearing hotline - 01332 592012 - will open from 7am to 7pm on A level results day, Thursday 16 August, then again from 8.30am to 5pm on Friday 17 August 2012.
Academics from the University's wide range of courses will be available to speak to students throughout the day to provide advice and information about places available at Derby.
A number of open days have been organised to give young people who approach the University through clearing an opportunity to experience everything the University has to offer.
The Clearing Open Days will be at the Derby Campus on Tuesday 21 August, 10am - 3pm and Clearing Open Afternoons, Wednesday 22 August and Thursday 23 August, 12pm - 3pm, and at the University's Buxton Campus on Tuesday 21 August from 10am - 3pm.
