Dancers Take Original Performance To Buxton Fringe
3 July 2012
A group of creative students will be showcasing an original contemporary dance at the Buxton Festival Fringe on Sunday (July 8).
The performance, at 1.15pm in Buxton's Pavilion Gardens, will be the end result of months of hard work for the Critical Dance Collective, a group of Creative Expressive Therapies and Dance and Movement joint honours degree students.
The Collective will give their original dance performance in contemporary dance to classical music; the performance choreographed to allow the audience to interpret the story being told through movement.
Second year BA (Hons) Dance and Movement with Theatre Arts degree student, Lauren Monaghan, 20, from Derby, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of our work locally. We can't wait for this one-off performance, to see how it is accepted and enjoyed by an audience for the first time.
"For me personally, preparing this performance has enabled me to progress and build my body of work which has not only helped my confidence but, as I hope to in dance professionally in the future, I have begun to explore choreography of my own with a group of enthusiastic dance artists.
"Once we've created a piece, it is extremely fulfilling and we are proud of what we create as a collective."
Some members of the group will also be performing in James and the Giant Peach, at the Pavilion Theatre on July 9 and 11 as part of the Buxton Festival. The production has been choreographed and directed by their lecturer, Liz Foster.
