Twenty nine halls of residence caretaking, cleaning and security staff have accomplished an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Care at Buxton College.

Through the innovative collaboration, over the last six months, the 29 members of Derby Student Residence Limited staff have received tutoring and assessment in Customer Care from Buxton College assessors.

Anne Barber, Curriculum Co-ordinator at Buxton College said: "Derby Student Residence Limited approached us because they wanted to provide some learning and development opportunities for their staff and thought we could help.

"Through this NVQ Level 2, the cleaners, caretakers and site and community supervisors in Derby's Halls of Residences have learned how to better their customer service skills, which will benefit both them and the University's students."

Hospitality assessors Anne Barber, Karen Staley, Paul Broadbent and Seamus O'Dwyer applauded as the 29 cleaners, porters, security staff and caretakers were awarded with their certificates by Alan Holloway, Operations Manager for University of Derby Student Residences.

Dawn Smith, a cleaner at Peak Court, said: "I learned lots of customer service skills on the course, and feel like I can communicate better with the students now."
