University of Derby Senior Lecturer Les Sloan has today been invited by the Derby Telegraph to offer his view on the Chilean mine story which has made global headlines - from the viewpoint of Occupational Therapists.

Fellow occupational therapy professionals in Chile will be integral to the rehabilitation of the rescued miners. The newspaper has given the University permission to feature part of the column below:

Soon after the winching machinery had been switched off, experts concerned with the mind and body will have stepped in to help rehabilitate the Chilean miners.

After watching the 33 men emerge after 69 days underground, it will interesting to see what the long-term effects on them will be.

For some, the trauma could last the rest of their lives but others will adapt much more quickly.
