Changes To University Telephone System

Telephone System Changes

IT Services are delivering a major upgrade of the telephone service across the University's Kedleston Road, Markeaton Street, Buxton and Britannia Mill throughout the next month.

Sebastian Bandino from IT services said: "This upgrade to a Cisco based platform will mean that all University staff will be provided with a new desk telephone handset. All of the configuration work ensuring that extension numbers and related caller and user pickup groups are correct will be migrated across and will be thoroughly tested prior going live.

"The phone rollout should be as un-intrusive as possible, with engineers visiting offices through the next four weeks ready for system to go live on 21 May at Kedleston Road and 28 May at Markeaton Street and Buxton.

"Old phones will be collected by the engineers after we go live".

Benefits for staff

  • Improvement in caller ID and integration with the directory means calling and transferring calls will be far easier.
  • Conferencing - all handsets have speaker phone functionality allowing for two and three way conference calls
  • The new system also allows for future integration with the PC desk top.
