Careers Fairs
25 October 2011
The University will be hosting two major careers fairs in early November. Firstly is the Careers Fair on 8 November, in the Atrium at Kedleston Road. The first of its kind for five years, it's targeted at final year students, recent graduates and students looking for placement opportunities. It is also an opportunity for students simply to speak to employers and find out more about the companies present on the day. We have global, national and local companies taking stands at the fair, including IBM, Cooper Parry and Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
The University's Employability Development Co-ordinator Christine Dare said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together businesses, students and recent graduates in an environment which is fit-for-purpose. In my experience of working with graduate employers they stress the importance to them of being able to meet students in person at universities in seeking out new talent".
On 9 November The Festival of Volunteering, the University's seventh Volunteering Fair, will take place at the same venue. The Festival has been awarded the Inspire Mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme, which recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games
Asia Alder, Project Coordinator for Volunteering at the University of Derby's Career Development Centre, said "I am delighted to have the Festival of Volunteering recognised in this way. The Games are an intrinsic part of the Festival. It is what makes this event different from previous events organised by ourselves and other organisations".
The aim of the Festival is to promote and raise awareness of volunteering and encourage involvement in sport. It will encourage participants to take part in London 2012 inspired sport-related volunteering opportunities and provide encouragement for participants to become more active, promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity.
