CDC advisers can help prepare students to deal with job interviews and assessments.

Students appreciated the value of having a practice run before going for an interview with a company they really wanted to work for.

More than 60 Biology and Zoology final year students benefited from mock interview sessions; run jointly by the Career Development Centre (CDC) and the Faculty of Education, Health and Sciences' School of Science.

The initiative was set up by Careers Adviser Marian Derbyshire and Lecturer in Forensic Biology Dr Kate Barnes, in response to students' requests for practical interview support.

Kate said: "The mock interviews were run as part of the assessment for the Level Six module, Current Issues and Professional Practice.

"Students said the process had given them the confidence to apply for positions they would never have considered, prior to the sessions.

"It has helped them to understand what to expect and how to prepare for interviews. Students appreciated the value of having a practice run before going for an interview with a company they really wanted to work for."

CDC advisers are offering to work with other programme teams to develop similar opportunities for different subject areas. Contact them on telephone 59(1316) or email: careers@derby.ac.uk
