Accommodation in Buxton

University of Derby Buxton are seeking more 'host families' in residences across Buxton.

We want to offer our college students the option of staying with host families in the town

Buxton residents are being asked to consider opening up their homes to young people coming to study in the town - which could net them an extra income of around £70 per week as a host family. The University is also seeking more private landlords to join its accredited housing scheme to provide much-needed accommodation.

Increasing numbers of young people from outside of Buxton are coming to the town to study at the University of Derby Buxton and also at its further education division, Buxton College. The College is now seeking more 'host families' in residences across Buxton where young college students, aged 16 to 18, can live during term time.

Residential Manager for Buxton College and the University of Derby Buxton, Jackie Mone, said: "We want to offer our college students the option of staying with host families in the town. We know that these younger students really benefit from being in a secure, family environment while they study, and feel far more at home in the town."

"As well as being a fantastic opportunity to earn some extra income (around £70 a week) previous host families have told us that they found the experience really rewarding and many have stayed in touch with the students once they've left the town."

Accommodation is needed for term time only, which amounts to around 35 weeks of the year. All of those who apply will have to successfully undergo interviews and a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check before they have students placed with them.
