Buxton Student Could Be The Next 'Eventice'
28 February 2011
A student from the University of Derby Buxton has made it to the final 12 in a national search for the best young talent in the events management industry.
Third year BA (Hons) Events Management degree student Suzie Gardner, 22, is a finalist in 'The Eventice' an 'Apprentice' style competition for the event industry organised by ESP Recruitment and supported by Event magazine, taking place at Excel London from March 1-3. The winner will land a once in a lifetime prize - a job at Excel London.
To make it into the final, Suzie impressed a panel of judges with a two-minute video outlining why she should be crowned 'The Eventice'.
In it she said: "I believe that when you're creating an event you are creating memories, and I feel really privileged that I can be part of that industry."
Suzie, who is from Towcester, Northants, has been working with a group of the finalists to fulfil a brief for a creative new event which they will have to present to a team of industry experts at the final. They will also be judged individually on a number of challenging event management tasks.
She said: "When they called to tell me that I'd made it into the final 12 I was so shocked and happy, of course. I'm really excited about heading to the competition in London. It sounds like it's going to be as tense as 'TV's The Apprentice'. There'll even be a boardroom where I'll find out if I've got the job."
Matt Bromley, Lecturer in Events Management said: "We're all really proud of Suzie, and wish her the best of luck for the final. Let's hope she returns as the next Eventice."
