I hope that this becomes a useful record of a very interesting man.
”A lecturer at the University of Derby Buxton launches his first book this week, the first biography of author and Christian theologian, Adam Bittleston (1911-89).
Adam Bittleston: His Life, Work and Thought by Kenneth Gibson is published by Floris Books. The biography details the life of Adam Bittleston, who was a good friend of Lord of the Flies author William Golding, alongside a selection of his writings, including all his articles on Shakespeare.
Dr Kenneth Gibson, from Carlton who teaches academic and research skills at the University of Derby Buxton is also a historian of 17th century religion, and was drawn to research and write about Adam Bittleston's life for many reasons.
Dr Gibson said: "Bittleston influenced Golding's writings and he is mentioned in the recent Golding biography by John Carey. He was one of the foremost theologians of the Christian community in Britain and wrote on many subjects, some of which are included in the book. His knowledge of Shakespeare, for example, was equal to that of any academic or writer of his time.
"The idea for the biography came to me around ten years ago, and it has taken me around three years to research and write. I used many of Bittleston's writings to inform the biography, and was also given access to his mother's diaries from 1924 to her death in 1933. I hope that this becomes a useful record of a very interesting man."
Adam Bittleston: His Life, Work and Thought by Kenneth Gibson, published by Floris Books is on sale now on amazon.co.uk and florisbooks.co.uk priced £16.99.
