Buxton Gets Ready To Welcome Returning Students
18 March 2011
More than 200 former Buxton students will be hoping for signs of spring weather as they travel to the town on Saturday March 26 for their re-scheduled Awards Ceremony. The original ceremony in December was cancelled due to the early snow that affected the whole of the UK.
On Saturday, the returning graduating students of the University of Derby Buxton will be joined by a Michelin-starred chef and a renowned business guru, who are both set to receive Honorary awards.
Chef Sat Bains will receive the Honorary Award of Doctor of Professional Practice (HonDPr) and Mike Wright, Professor of Financial Studies at the University of Nottingham's Business School, will receive the Honorary Award of Doctor of the University (Hon DUniv) at the ceremony, which takes place in the Buxton Campus's iconic Devonshire Dome.
All of those attending have been invited to join a procession led by Fairfield Brass Band from the Dome to a ceremony at St Anne's Church. They will then return to the Dome for their ceremony, formal photographs and a meal.
Dr Peter Dewhurst, Dean of the University of Derby Buxton, said: "We're looking forward to welcoming our special guests and former students on Saturday and finding out how well they have been doing since leaving us last summer. We were all disappointed that the weather meant we couldn't go ahead with the December ceremony, but we're sure that this Saturday will be just as special an occasion."
