B Block re-opening 2

The direct pedestrian route from the Atrium to B Block at the University's Kedleston Road site has re-opened as of today (Monday September 17).

This route was closed over the summer as part of the Estates department's ongoing major works in that area. This £1million project involves the rotation of the existing E Block lifts 180 degrees which will allow them to stop on each floor, create better segregation of passing foot traffic and those people queuing for the lifts, and complement what will eventually be an extended Atrium space.

Direct access to B Block, and E Block's small lift (primarily for those with mobility difficulties) and main stairway, has also been restored.

Work on rotating the two E Block lifts is continuing. They are due to be re-opened on October 26.

Ian Willgoose, University Director of Estates, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience and would ask people to bear with us during the temporary disruption, which will be worth it for the gains achieved by the end."

For further information, or if you require assistance, please contact the University's Security team on 59(2554) or Estates Administration on 59(1111).
