Alliance Will Create Brighter Futures For Young Children
7 October 2011
Following Wednesday's (October 5) announcement from the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), the University of Derby is delighted that it will continue to deliver Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) from January 2012.
The University will now work in partnership with eight other Higher Education establishments in the EYPS Northern Alliance to deliver the Early Years Professional Status programme - a graduate level professional accreditation for people interested in working with infants and young children in nursery or pre-school settings.
Lesley Faulconbridge, Assistant Head of EYPS and the University of Derby's Strategic Lead within the Northern Alliance, said: "More than 170 people have studied and gained EYPS at the University of Derby since we were appointed to deliver the qualification in 2007.
"These 170 professionals are now using what they learned in their daily roles caring for and working with infants and young children up to the age of five across the East Midlands. EYPS has therefore had some very positive outcomes for children in the area.
"We are delighted that we will be working with a group of such high calibre institutions within the Northern Alliance to continue to deliver the programme, and in doing so, continue the trend towards the up-skilling of the early years professional workforce."
Manchester Metropolitan University is the lead institution in the EYPS Northern Alliance which also inlcudes CETAD Lancaster University, Liverpool Hope University, University of Northumbria, University of Sunderland, Teeside University, Bradford College, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Huddersfield.
Since its launch in 2007, EYPS has become recognised as the gold-standard in early years training and the only Government endorsed accreditation for the early years workforce.
