About the course
This is a stand alone module at degree level, which will prepare you to become a mentor within a health and social care workplace. This module will give you a deeper understanding of the role of a professional mentor so that you'll have a greater understanding of key issues affecting teaching, learning and assessment.
The module will take you approximately 12 - 16 weeks to complete, and you'll learn through a mixture of theory and practical work. There is the option to study this module either on campus where you'll attend five theory days at the university or through distance learning. You'll also be able to explore concepts and issues related to mentorship in your workplace where you will work with learners and students to support and assess their learning.
You'll be assessed through coursework, so there are no exams. Your first assessment will be to produce a 2500 word assignment explaining the role of a mentor. Your second assessment will be to produce a reflective portfolio which evaluates your planning and delivery of a teaching session within the clinical environment.
