Matthew Hindes - Technology Foundation Programme
Matthew Hindes, Technology Foundation Programme student.
We interviewed Matthew Hindes who studied our Technology Foundation Programme, about his experiences with us at Derby.
» What have you enjoyed most about the course?
"I enjoyed the entire Technology Foundation year."
There were some really interesting modules. The other students on the course and the teaching staff were very pleasant and friendly. A personal favourite highlight was the Technology Project module. In this module we were given a schematic diagram of a circuit and we had to copy this into a proper circuit design. And then build (and test) the circuit, which then had to be housed in a 'project box' which we had to add a design to.
» What do you think to the facilities and equipment?
"I was really impressed with the equipment avalible."
The University probably has every piece of equipment we needed/could need to complete an investigation. Plus all of this equipment was always readily available to use.
» How have you found the lecturers and their support?
"I found the lecturers to be really friendly."
You can build strong relationships with them which makes the overall teaching/learning environment a whole lot better. They quickly learn your support needs which allows them to give you proper support. I had to seek help and advice from Dave Wilson quite a lot of times over the year, and he was always ready and willing to help and would do his best to do so, nothing was too much trouble.
» What do you think to Derby?
"The informal environment makes things alot more comfortable."
I personally think it's a very good university. The informal environment makes things a lot more comfortable. The University is always ready to give help and advice. A great thing about the University is that each person is treated as an individual in the community. This is a lot better than just being treated as 'numbers' or 'just another student' which is what happens at a lot of other universities and colleges.
» What would you say to someone thinking about coming to study here?
"I would recommend Derby to anybody."
It has a great environment and is located in a nice city. I would also recommend the course to anybody. You get to take really interesting modules and the staff are very experienced in their particular subject areas, so they really do know what they are talking about.
